Objective + Concept
Create the brand identity for a design agency with a focus on cultural awareness and serving underrepresented communities.
Soy Studio is a design agency dreamed up by Lei Bugarin, Teresa Aguilera, and I. With strong connection to our cultural roots, Soy Studio brings mutual respect and timeless, culturally centered design to the Greater Portland Metro.
Process
As a team, we laid out our studio’s values and goals. During Fall 2023, the team worked on the brand identity led by Lei Bugarin. This involved multiple rounds of sketches and revisions, hours of color research, and several iterations of type experiments.
At the same time, I led research into the Portland design market and competitor agencies. We conducted interviews with four industry professionals in brand strategy and design. We also released a survey where participants answered questions about different cultural aspects of their life as well as ranked a number of personal values from most to least important.
Significance
Soy Studio is an example of teamwork, market research, and pulling from life experiences to design. It also highlights the ability to create a functional timeline with input and requirements from outside sources. Highlights of my involvement include creating screen printed merchandise, designing the Soy Studio website, social media management, and designing posters for in-person events.
